GOLD International Tanzania

Success through strong partnership

In 2016, International Development Tanzania, a non-governmental organization, was established to support the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA-FAS) and USAID Tanzania’s Office of Economic Growth in their work to build agricultural sector growth, food security, energy, natural resources management, and improved nutrition in the country. After the first 3-year agreement was signed, it was extended by 2 years. In 2020, a new agreement for another three years was signed.

Today, GOLD ID TZ’s staff meets USDA’s goals of assisting the USAID Tanzania Economic Growth Office through:

  • program management;

  • logistical support for technical assessments; and

  • training and mentoring by its Tanzania-based office staff.

Specifically, we engage in agricultural development through programs and partnerships with ministries, universities, cooperatives, and NGOs. We provide technical monitoring and evaluation advising to partners.

Critically, we draw on the breadth and depth of expertise in targeted areas.

  • Production agriculture

  • Agricultural economics and agribusiness

  • Horticulture

  • Value-added processing

  • Land tenure issues

  • Animal sciences

  • Youth development

  • Natural resources and forestry/forest products processing and marketing

  • Food safety and food processing including value-added nutritional enhancement

  • Veterinary medicine

GOLD ID TZ has provided:

  • Technical assistance in fundraising and new business development, monitoring and evaluation, and communications for the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania Centre, LTD (SAGCOT or SCL)

  • Procurement of meteorological equipment from the United Kingdom, management of the logistics for its delivery to Tanzania, and hiring of staff to build and run the database (in collaboration with USAID, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Tanzania Meteorological Authority [TMA, a government agency]). WSUID TZ then handed over the system to TMA.

  • Event hosting services to support interaction between Tanzania government officials, and between U.S. and Tanzanian officials and policy makers

Outside of the NGO, ID TZ provided services directly through contract specialists and direct hires who support USAID’s efforts and supply M&E expertise. The team also works with US scholars and scientists who have an interest in research in the country.

Our mission in Tanzania is capacity building. We are training and empowering the local population to manage their country’s development to the point where we can step out.
